Please note: This course is suitable for youth and teens from 11 to 18 years of age. Have you ever wanted to build your own skateboard deck from scratch? This course will teach you how to do just that using innovative techniques created by the Roarockit Skateboard Company in Maui, Hawaii. You too can build a deck as well as the pros do! You can choose to make a regular deck or a long board. Learn how to laminate 7 layers of Canadian hard maple veneer into a street cruiser by using a one-sided foam mould and atmospheric pressure to press the veneers into a modern street deck shape. Your deck will then become one-of-a-kind as you design your own graphics and learn to apply them using stencils and paint. In addition to having a custom deck, you'll learn about wood veneers used for the manufacture of skateboards, simple mould making techniques, atmospheric pressure, basic use of hand woodworking tools like rasps and sandpaper, designing graphics, template making, and deck finishing. As a bonus, you'll design and create your own mini skate park. Prizes go to the best deck and mini park! No previous woodworking experience is required. Your registration fee includes the materials for building a skateboard deck kit. Wheels and trucks are not included in this kit.
