The staining process is an acrylic equivalent to watercolour and can lead to some stunning visual effects using intense brilliant colour, subdued subtle colour or a mixture of both. A recent addition to the techniques available to artists, stain is created by adding water and/or medium to acrylic paints and applying it to an unprimed canvas. This course will deal with a variety of methods of application including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, graduated overlays, flat applications, mixture combinations and stains in conjunction with undiluted acrylic. These applications can be made with either representational or non-representational images. The process has wonderful properties of blending and spreading that produce very exciting results. No previous experience in painting is necessary to benefit from this amazing technical and aesthetic resource. If you have previous experience, you will have an opportunity to deal with this new technique at your own personal skill level. Exploration of the process will be encouraged in a non-threatening environment where you will receive personal assistance and critiques as well as being able to join in group discussions and critiques.
