Please note: Previous Raku experience is mandatory to participate in this course.
This six-day advanced-level professional development course is a challenging exploration of the technical aspects of various Raku effects. Topics will be systematically studied and results evaluated one by one so that successful outcomes can be obtained at will. There will be a thorough study of firing and post-firing reduction techniques, effective methods of controlling size and placement of Crackle patterns, production of Lustre effects and efficient ceramic kiln design. The most emphasis however, will be devoted to obtaining successful results with those spectacular but elusive Patinas, Copper Mattes and Halos. A Raku kiln will be designed and built for daily firings. Please bring 12 bisqued pieces using Raku pottery clay to fire. A maximum class size of 12 ensures individual attention.
