Course Number: ARTS1580
Please note: This is not a technical or instructional throwing class.
Clay makes an ideal canvas! This highly flexible and receptive medium will be fully explored through a comprehensive survey of image transfer and surface techniques. Discover the delight of creating and applying your mark using customized printing blocks, stencils, stamps, relief printing, screen-printing, mono-printing and decal transfers. From painterly to photographic, you will discover a full range of attainable effects offered through transfer techniques. Through hands on work and demonstrations, learn to apply and layer patterns, images, text, colour and texture to natural and treated clay surfaces. Techniques will be applied to 2 and 3 dimensional projects that are primarily hand-built. The potter's wheel will be available for use for some assignments. Students with limited or no throwing experience are not expected to use the wheel to complete assignments. This course is suitable for beginners, or intermediates working in clay that are interested in expanding their decorative vocabulary, or for 2 dimensional artists interested in expanding their canvas potential.
