Course Number: ARTS0842
The all-white or all-black painting using all colours is the painter's challenge. This course invites both the realist and the abstractionist. First in white, you will learn to create luminosity in high key tints through the technical mastery of infrequently used white paints. Then in black, you will learn the secrets of mixing and layering rich veils of dark. `Crafting' surface to express concept, you will study the symbolism and psychology of both black and white, inspired in black by Whistler's "nocturne" paintings and the Baroque masters, and in white by modern Canadian painters including Ronald Bloore and Borduas. Finally, you will work black and white together. You are invited to work in oil (no solvent) or acrylic. Instruction is suitable for beginner to advanced levels of skill.
