Course Number: ARTS0895

This workshop is an opportunity to use familiar materials in new ways. In addition to using specialty papers such as filament, mulberry, mango and rice you will create two specialty papers to use with your collages: Crystalline Paper and Brayer Paper. After scaffolding your supports with texture you will have a starting point and your paintings will have three-dimensionality. A wide variety of materials, including the papers, egg shells, cheesecloth, dried rose and other flower petals, gesso, sand, tiny glass beads, acrylic mediums and gels, as well as other materials of choice may be used. Watercolour and acrylic paint will be applied, addressing elements and principles of art, including composition, values, texture, and colour mixing. The subject theme for projects is movement: representational, symbolic or abstract. A congenial atmosphere and an immersion in the process is encouraged and valued. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels.
