Course Number: ARTS1606
Please note: To register for this course you must meet the admission requirements for the EXA Graduate Certificate. Details available on EXA page. This course is an elective credit toward Fleming College's Expressive Arts Certificate. It is not an elective credit toward Fleming College's Visual and Creative Arts Diploma. This experiential course provides an opportunity to explore writing-focused expressive arts. Instruction will involve an interdisciplinary approach that includes additional art modalities such as voice and music, movement and dance, visual arts and drama as they generate and support the writing process. Discover how the creative writing process teaches you to articulate inner sensations, emotions, and thoughts. Exploring a variety of art modalities in the realm of creative writing gives a fresh perspective on recurring themes and issues in our lives, and deepens our understanding of the metaphors and images that surround us. Writing-focused expressive arts are effective with a range of populations, from high functioning adults and children, to clients who are not native English speakers, to populations with different challenges, including those who are not highly verbal. A background in writing is not required.
