Course Number: ARTS1736
Please note: Previous artistic experience is not required.
Enjoy this approach to teaching curriculum content using creativity, imagination and vision. While this course is designed specifically for primary and intermediate school teachers who want to experience integrating curriculum content with artistic imagination, the process will be approached by pursuing a series of individual projects that build confidence and experience in your own creative process. Creative integration is an approach that invites teachers to use the arts to provide the structure for delivering curriculum content. Discover how to create a children's classroom rich in imagination, creativity and exploration. Instruction and exercises will demonstrate how to integrate creative learning opportunities for students while meeting the requirements for student assessment and content delivery. Using a selection of curriculum expectations from different subject areas and grade levels, you will self-assess your own projects in terms of success at integrating at least three diverse subject areas. This course will emphasize visual art as the primary learning strategy, rather than an as an add-on activity at the end of a unit. Drama, movement and voice will also be investigated. The purpose of creative integration is to make learning fun, to open the hearts as well as the minds of the children you teach, and to create a learning environment rich in empathy, nurturing and personal growth. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to experience this, first and foremost, for yourself. This course is appropriate for those who feel that creativity comes easily as well as for those who are uncertain about their artistic abilities.
