Course Number: ARTS1581
Discover how to use the works of master artists as a starting point for the development of exciting new works that interpret the original ideas of famous painters and bring them into a territory of your own. Begin by choosing your own sources for these paintings and bring those reproduction favourites to the course. These choices could be made from any period of art history that is of particular interest to you. From these choices, you will make paintings by abstracting elements to reconfigure them into completely or partially new kinds of work. This will be achieved by various methods such as reconstructing the overall design, the rhythm and movement, the choices of colour, the type of shapes, the uses of line, the amount and character of texture, and other such manipulations of the ingredients of the original work. You will be working from your own choices and the variety of interpretations from this will be inspiring to all participants. Individual instruction and assistance will play a large role in the success of your efforts and group discussions and critiques will help you develop new directions for your work.
